Guide to Chinese Project Announcement

Guide to Chinese Project Announcement

I’ve added a new page called the “Guide to Chinese“.  In previous posts I’ve mentioned wanting to create a guide similar to Tae Kim’s Guide to Japanese, and I’ve finally started working on it.   I’ve searched long and hard for a really good guide to the Chinese (Mandarin) language, but mostly what I’ve found are incomplete guides, and guides that really try to teach you everything; I don’t believe in that.  I do not plan on teaching anything but basic vocabulary and adding basic examples only to demonstrate grammar points.

My plan for the guide includes:

1) Pinyin and Chinese pronunciation (hopefully including audio)

2) Chinese grammar

3) Chinese Characters

4) Chinese culture as it applies to the language

This is going to be a huge undertaking, and I know that if I don’t announce it publicly then I probably won’t ever sit down and actually dedicate myself to it. I will be working on it mostly on my own, but I will also be working closely with some local friends of mine as well as a friend from Hong Kong to polish the content.  The guide is going to be absolutely free, which I think resources like this should be.

I will most likely be posting the guide in small pieces.  I’ll need help from other people out there to correct mistakes, give suggestions, and ask questions about the language to help spark ideas on what I might be missing.

So… Now where to start?  I guess I’ll go make an outline now!  Follow my progress by signing up to my RSS feed, and help by by posting comments or contacting me directly!

If you did that, I would be very happy. I have always loved the aforementioned Japanese page, as it was very useful in learning Japanese grammar patterns. If a Chinese version existed, I would be most pleased :D

Hey Fish Squid! I’m working on it (although somewhat slowly). The first segment hopefully will be up by this weekend. Thanks for the support!
